Mahabhairab Temple

An ancient temple where king Bana worshipped Mahabhairab, another incarnation of Lord Shiva. A holy place for the religious-minded.
This temple houses the statue of Lord Shiva which is supposed to be the second largest in the world and was ardently worshipped by the Bana King.It is very sacred place to be visited in Tezpur. 

Bhairabi Temple

Bhairabi Temple is among the oldest temples in Assam situated on the borders of Tezpur. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. From the back side of the temple, one can see the famous Kolia Bhomora Setu. 
The presiding deity of this oldest temple of Assam is Goddess Durga.Bhairabi Temple is situated on Tezpur border.The stones of the temple is adorned by intricate carvings and images that date back to 9th century.The people visting this temple offer ghee lamps,fruits and sweets to the goddess.

Ketakeshwar Dewal

Ketakeshwar Dewal is one of the most important Hindu shrines in Tezpur.Ketakeshwar Dewal is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is said to have the second biggest Shivalingam in the world.This shrine is a very holy place to the Hindus and is regularly visited by the tourists.There are actually two parts to the temple, one where which is said to be the original place of the Shivalingam and another where the Shivalingam is located presently.


Haleswar Temple

It is 10 km to the north of Tezpur, near Tezpur- Balipara main road. A linga was found by a cultivator ( Hallowa) while he was ploughing in the field. A temple was constructed initially on this linga. Later , the Ahom King Rudra Singha constructed the temple in 1705 AD.

The Hazara Pukhuri

The large tank preserves the name of Hazara Varman in Tezpur. It was excavated in the early part of the 19th century. This is the third largest tank covering an area of 70 acres.


Bhomoraguri

A mammoth stone inscription made by the Ahom General Kalia Bhomora Phukan, who planned to construct a bridge over Brahmaputra could be seen here. About two centuries later, a bridge over Brahmaputra at the same place has now been constructed. The 3.05 km. Bridge named after the great Ahom general, connecting Nagaon district with Tezpur was opened for vehicular Traffic on 3rd April 1987. 

Bamuni Hills

The ruins of the Bamuni Hills are famous for their aesthetic beauty. The sculptural ruins, dating back to the 9th and 10th century A.D. now lie here for the tourists.

Da-parbatia

Da-Parbatia is one of the most famous Gupta era ruins near Tezpur with an exquisitely carved door leading to the inner temple. On either side of the door are carvings of the Goddesses Ganga and Yamuna, with garlands in their hands. The entire door frame is covered with elaborate carvings of flowers and foliage.
           The name of “Parbotia” itself hints to a significant point of view. “Parvatiyas” were the persons who liaise with the hills (Parvat) and the Plains (Bhoiyam). Evidently, Ahom Kings created several posts under their direct control like “Parbatia Kuanri” (i.e. queen of the Parbat). “Parbatia Phukan” (Commander of the hilly areas, so on. This system of liaison and control existed in the historic time for meeting trade-links as well as civil and military purposes of the kings of Pragjytishpur and Haroopeshwar, King Bhagadatta was mentioned as Parbatpate (Owner of the Hills) and his soldiers comprised with the Kirat-Chin and other hill people. At a time they merged with other subjects of the kings and became part and parcel of the “nation”, at large, creating a different language that that of middle India, and a different art form and culture since seventh century A.D, onwards, in Assam.

Agnigarh

Agnigarh (agni-fire ; garh -rampart) means 'residence amidst fire'. Agnigarh is a big fortress constructed on top of a hill on the banks of Brahmaputra. To reach the top of the hill there is a circular staircase that also is a good option for trekking. On your way to the top of the hillock, you will see lot of images relating to the legend behind the construction of the fort. It is said that the fort was build by King Bana to keep her daughter away from her lover, Anirudha who was the grandson of Lord Krishna. The fort was surrounded by fire on all times which prevented anyone to come in or go out without permission. They were later saved by Lord Krishna himself. The fort is a great place to get some mesmerizing views of the surrounding low lying areas.

Agnigarh preserves the sweet memory of young lovers. Agnigarh or the rampart surrounded by fire, is perhaps the most beautiful tourist location of Tezpur. It is believed that, princess Usha the only daughter of King Bana was kept inside the palace which was surrounded by a rampart of fire. 

This is big fortress built on top of a hill to isolate Usha the daughter of Bana King from Anirudha, grandson of Lord Krishna.The fort was surrounded by fire on all times and thats how the place got its name Agnigarh meaning 'residence amidst fire'.

Cole Park

This is one of the most interesting places in the Tezpur. The park is the perfect place for the peace lovers. This is the place, where the two impressively ornamented stone pillars and the sculptural remains of the famous Bamuni hill can be seen.

Situated in the center of the Tezpur, Cole Park is among the most visited attraction in the city. The parks is an an exceptionally picturesque spot that sees tourists almost on all days, but the number jumps up when it hosts a painting exhibition. It has been a venue for such exhibition since long. The park is also called as Chitralekha Udyan and is famous for Bhomaraguri inscription which is the ancient plan for building a bridge across River Brahmaputra. Apart from that you can also indulge in boating in a small lake in front of the park.

Cole Park has been the ideal location fro hosting many exhbitions in the town.It is also popularly referred by the name Chitralekha Udyan.Cole Park is known for Bhomaraguri inscription which is the ancient plan for building a bridge across River Brahmaputra.The other attraction of this place is the boating in a small lake in front of the park.

  • From Tezpur by road Tawang (12 Hrs) / Bomdila (5 Hrs) / Kaziranga National Park (40 km) / Orang National Park (30 km)/ Nameri National Park (35 km) are very easily accessible.
  • For Orchid lovers the Orchid sanctuary nearby i.e. Bhalukpung will be a bonus point for the hundreds of orchid varieties that are cultivated there.
  • PAKKE (a Tiger sanctuary) & EAGLENEST (a birding point) are also nearby.
  • Moreover the Bharali River is an anglers delight as angling / water rafting are allowed during winter seasons.
  • Chariduar also host a number of Tourist Lodge amidst of tea garden.
  • ECO camps are also present in Bhalukpung / Nameri .
