                     Tezpur ( তেজপুৰ ), the land of beauty and the home of colourful people is situated on the banks of the Mighty River Brahmaputra . Along with its majestic blue hills, flourishing green valleys, lavishing tea gardens and the breathtaking snow covered peaks of The Mighty Himalayas , Tezpur is the City of BlooD by its name.According to the mythology , the name Tezpur is derived from the Sanskrit words 'Teza' (meaning blood) and 'Pura' (meaning town or city). 
                        Sonitpur, known as ancient Tezpur is steeped in Mythology and legend. The "city of Blood" (Sonit- Blood pur-city) summon up images of the romantic legend of Usha and Anirudha and of the intense battle between 'Hari' and 'Hara'.
                       Situated in the northern side of Assam, Tezpur is among those cities that is gifted both with natural beauty and man made marvels. Besides it has many historical place of interest, apart from the beautiful gifts of Mother Nature .
                       Tezpur is situated on the banks of river Brahmaputra, in Sonitpur district. Tezpur in Assam is a town of magical scenic beauty and matchless archaeological ruins. The unspoilt green valleys encircled by hills of Arunachal Pradesh, with snow covered peaks of Himalaya and lush tea gardens have all contributed to make Tezpur a tourist pleasure. It is the headquarters of Sonitpur district and is considered as one of the most beautiful towns of Assam.

Tezpur was a cradle to three doyens of Assamese Culture: Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rava, and Natasurya Phani Sarma.
